Frequently asked questions

Getting started

What is Hardware.Quest?

Hardware.Quest is a hardware discovery index: verified specifications, side-by-side comparisons and price signals for components, systems, displays, storage and audio.

How do I find a specific component?

Use the Index menu to browse by category, or the search box below to search components by brand, model or MPN. Filters on each category page narrow by spec, price and more.

How do I search by model number or barcode?

The search box matches product titles as well as MPN (manufacturer part number) and GTIN/EAN barcodes, so pasting an exact SKU takes you straight to the right part.

Data & accuracy

Where do the specifications come from?

Specs are sourced from verified manufacturer datasheets. We never invent values — where a data point is missing it is shown as unknown rather than guessed.

A specification looks wrong or is missing — what can I do?

Specs come from verified manufacturer datasheets and gaps are shown as unknown rather than guessed. If something still looks off, flag it in the community and we will re-check the source datasheet.

Prices & deals

How does pricing work?

When a retail price is available we show it with a price guide (history + retailers). When no trustworthy price exists we show "TBA" rather than a fabricated number.

How do I follow deals and price drops?

The Deals page collects current community-surfaced discounts. Save a part to a wishlist to keep it handy, and once price tracking launches you will be able to set a target and be alerted when a product reaches it. Until then, deals and price history are shown wherever we have trustworthy data.

Which Amazon store and currency do I see?

Retailer links default to Amazon.com in USD and switch to your local Amazon store automatically based on your region. You can also pick your store manually with the flag selector on a product page.

Features

What are the rankings?

Category rankings (e.g. Top 100 GPUs) order parts by a transparent, spec-based score. Every ranked list shows how the score is built and the data coverage behind it. Open the Rankings hub for the best of every category, or /rankings/cpu, /rankings/gpu and so on for a full Top 100.

How do I compare two products side by side?

Open the Compare page and either pick one of the example match-ups or search to add any part. With two products you get a compact head-to-head card that highlights the winner on every spec that matters; add more and it expands into a full comparison table.

How does the Component Picker (PC builder) work?

The Component Picker gives you a slot for each core part — CPU, cooler, motherboard, memory, storage, GPU, case and power supply. Click “Choose” on a slot to browse that category, or hit the + button on any product while browsing to drop it straight into your build. Your build is saved in your browser. Compatibility checking is coming soon.

How do I save products to a wishlist?

Click the heart icon on any product card or detail page to save it. Open the Wishlist page to manage multiple named lists, revisit saved parts and jump to retailer links. Lists live in your browser; sign in to sync the active list to your account.

What is Pulse?

Pulse is the live activity signal in the top navigation — it reflects what the community is viewing, saving and comparing right now, so you can spot trending hardware at a glance.

Community

How do I join the community and what are the rules?

Open the Community area to read and post in the forums. Keep it on-topic and civil: no spam, affiliate dumping or personal attacks, search before posting duplicates, and use clear titles. Share builds, ask for advice and help others — a full code of conduct is pinned in the community.

Can I publish my build as a guide?

Yes. Assemble a build in the Component Picker, then use “Publish as build guide” to share it with the community. Signed-in members publish directly; guest submissions are reviewed before going live.

Account

Do I need an account?

No — browsing, comparing, building and saving all work without an account (everything is stored in your browser). An account lets you sync wishlists across devices and post in the community.
